Krest Baptism -- March 25, 2019

Ahoj!

Jak se mate? Dofam ze jste dobře. Tak... Tento tyden byl moc skvely! mely jsme krest v jihlave!

I wanted to start out with a scripture 2 Nefi (Nephi) 32:3 ''Wherfore I said unto you, feast upon the words of christ; for behold, the words of christ will tell you all things what ye should do.'' I love this scripture because I know we can often find answers to our questions in the scriptures. We are so blessed because this life really is an open book test. Heavenly Father wants us to get an ''A'' on it so that we can return home to live with him again. We can do that by following the teachings in the scriptures, praying, and recieving personal revelation through the holy ghost.
Monday we went to Jilhlava and looked at phones because our mission is getting phones, we skyped home and played some games. We did some group finding too. On the train ride home, we talked to this really cool guy and taught him the restoration and gave him a Kniha Mormonova. He is majoring in English and spoke English really well.

Tuesday we had district council and talked about finding with faith. The Dransfields made us lunch and I taught language study. Then we went out and did some group finding. A few of us sang while the rest contacted. Then the guys that were supposed to come fix our water heater called and said they were behind schedule and asked if they could come tomorrow. So one more day of showering in the sink. haha. :) good memories. Then we taught the beginner's english class animals and gave a lesson on the Priesthood afterwards.

Wednesday the guys came and fixed our water heater! hurray! We had a lesson with a dad named Lukas, we walked to the grocery store with him and his little girls. He is a very philosphical guy and doesn't really believe in God and isn't willing to try, so we ended up dropping him and told him to call us when he is willing to try. Then we taught our neighbor boys english.
Thursday we said hi to Babicka Pohoralicka (MIsison President's mom) at work and she gave us muffins which was cute. Then later that day we ran into our mission president. He was on a vylet (day trip) with a senior couple from prague. So we talked to him for a second and that was fun. Then we went tracting and a woman from another religion let us in. We had a lesson and discussed the Kniha Mormonova with her. She was willing to listen and told us to come back tomorrow. We did weekly planning and I got my first soft served ice cream! SOOO GOOOD!

Friday was such a busy day. We had 3 lessons with 3 people of different religions who were each very strong in their religion. It was so interesting. And we really were defending our faith and teaching by the spirit. It was crazy.

Saturday we went to a baptism in Jihlava! The branch rented out a pool because there aren't any baptismal fonts around and the river is still cold! The spirit was so strong and Honza was so happy. He bore his testimony about how he knew all his past sins were washed away and how he was clean! It was so cool! Then we went over to babi Poho's house (mission president's mom) and did service in her garden. It reminded me a lot of my great grandma Guymon who loved roses and gardening. Babi Poho and My great grandma Guymon both had ponds with goldfish in them too. I thought that was pretty cool. Afterwards she fed us gulas which was so good!

Sunday we studied come follow me in the morning with the Kutilovi family. Then Gad (pronounced God) came to church. He is a legend in the Czech Republic and all the missionaries love him. His sister was the last person to be baptized before the missionaries had to leave the country. Gad did a lot for the church during communism. It is crazy that communism really wasn't that long ago. Then we did a ton of tracting with the Elders and got 2 return appointments. We also went and had a lesson with a less active. It was a great week.

Remeber who you are and what you stand for!

No HOT water & the Spirit -- March 18, 2019

Ahoj,

Well it has been quite the week. Friday our water heater broke so our water is ice cold and no one works on the weekend. We are hoping to get it fixed this week. We have literally been boiling water to take showers, it has been fun.

Tuesday we went to Jilhlava for district council and did some group contacting in English about our English class we teach. Then we took a bus back to trebic and taught our conversational english class which was a lot of fun.

Wednesday we went on a long run in the morning. We go running every morning which I love. We had a rough time talking to people becuase no one wanted to talk. We then had a lesson with a cute babi (grandma) and she gave us a lithografie her husband made and it is beautiful. Then we had a lesson with Tomas who we contacted a while ago. He was busy then but got a hold of us and said he had time. We taught him the resto and he listened, but he was more interested in finding a girlfriend than talking about the gospel, so sorry buddy, but no. Then we translated branch council for the Dransfields and had dinner with them.

Thursday we had a very spirtual lesson with Tonda. He kept his commitment to pray and said it had made a difference in his life. We watched a talk with him called "am I a child of god" because he is still trying to find out if god exists. After the talk, Tonda had tears in his eyes. I said "I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel the Holy Ghost right now, and I know that he loves us. I know he loves you Tonda, and the Dransfields, and sister Sewell" We translated for the Dransfields because Tonda doesn't speak English and then Starsi Dransfield testified and cried and Tonda cried and the spirit was so strong. It was such a powerful experience. I know that God loves each and everyone of us. After the lesson Tonda sent us a text and thanked us and told us that we feel like his second family to him and that for some reason there is something different about the memebers in our church. He has also been asking us to send him scriptures to read. He is so cool and I see so much potential in him. That evening we were able to go to Jilhlava and we gave some tours to random people on the street through our church building. That was pretty cool. Then for inspiriation night we watched the movie Coco.

Friday we did a lot of contacting and had a tough crowd. We couldn't get anyone to talk to us. It was sad. Also that was the day our water heater broke and we called our landlord, he came over, but couldn't fix it and couldn't get anyone to fix it until this next week. It is literally worse than ice bath water. Then we did weekly planning and taught our neighbor boys english.

Saturday it was rainy and cold. We planned to have a lesson with Martin, and we were heading to meet him at the church when we met him on the corner of the street. He was completely drunk. He couldn't walk 5 feet without about falling over. It was so sad. We talked to him for a while and then this random guy came up to us and joined our group. It was strange. We asked his name and talked to him for a bit, then a woman came up and joined the group. I shook her hand and asked her name. Then I realized that they were less actives in our branch! So we were surrounded by three less actives. So we talked for a bit and then the 2 left to get on a bus and we sent Martin home to sleep. It was pretty crazy. Then we went tracting and someone threatened to call the cops on us, but they never did.

Sunday we studied come follow me with the Kutilovi family in the morning. Then we went to church and the missionaries ran it becuase the branch president was gone. Then we had an acitivity for the YW and YM. We ate lunch and played games. Then we had a lesson with Sister Machoskova and taught her the plan of salvation. Then we did some tracting.

Overall it has been a good week. It has had highs and lows. But it is when the spirit really touches the heart of the people you are teaching that makes the work all worth it. Even the cold showers. :)

Smooched -- March 11, 2019

Dobry Den!

I wanted to start out with a spiritual thought this week. I really like the scripture 3 Nephi 18:24 ''hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up, that which ye have seen me do.'' We can be a light and example to others when we put Christ first in our lives and serve others the way that he served. I know that as we nurture that light by following Christ, people can physically see a difference in us and we stand out in the world.

Tuesday we had district council and then we had a lesson with a lady named Renata. We have a really hard time setting up with her because she is so busy. We taught her the gospel of Jesus Christ and then asked if she wanted to follow the example of the savior. She said yes. So we asked if she wanted to follow Christ and be baptized when she found out that our message was true. She was a little apprehensive because she is a member of another church and isn't sure if she wants to join ours, but she said if she found out that it was true, she would. So we set a date for her to work towards and promised that she could have an answer before the 8th of June. It was a good lesson and I really felt the spirit extending the baptism invitation. Then coming home, I almost didn't contact this guy, then last second decided to and we set up to meet with him tomorrow... (spoiler alert... he didn't show up) Then that evening we taught English and it was one of their birthday's so she brought all the missionaries a treat, it was kind of her and we sang to her.

Wednesday we had a lesson with Tonda about prayer and scripture study as a commandment. He still isn't sure if God exists and hasn't been keeping commitments. We told him he has to act if he wants to find out if God is there. Then we read a part of Alma 32 with him and testified that God loved him, he cried a little bit. I know he felt the spirit. Then we went tracting and our mission president has asked us to write down every house we tract and what happens there in a book, so we can revisit the houses that don't answer or say to come back later. It is time consuming but a really great system.

Thursday we did all our studies in the morning and then took a bus to the Kutilovi's house. We taught them about missionary work becuase the twins are preparing to go on missions. We gave them advice and they asked us questions. Then we played soccer with the little boys and traveled home. Then we had a short lesson with Bohous. We showed him some books that have been taken out of the bible aka (bible dictionary lost books) Then we talked about the importance of the Kniha Mormonova and prayer. Then we went ponolocking and got kicked out of 2 buildings.

Friday we went contacting and found a YSA sitting on a park bench. We taught a little resto and set up to meet tomorrow (another spoiler alert, he didn't show up and hung up when we called him). Then we contacted this super awesome man. He was so kind to us and was really interested in what we were doing here as missionaries and who we were. We got his number to talk more...he started sending us goodnight and goodmorning texts... kinda weird... It get's weirder... he stuck out his hand to shake hands good bye. So I shook his hand, and then before I knew it, he was kissing my cheek. It took me by surprise, but it really is just a Czech culture thing that older people do. I never thought I was going to get kissed on my mission though. Then we had a relief society activity and I relearned how to crochet. Thanks Grandma Guymon for all the time we spent sewing together.

Saturday we kept getting calls from an unknown number in the middle of the night, so we didn't sleep very well. We found 2 potentials contacting which was awesome. Then we did some tracting. Finally we had a meeting with the missionaries on how we were going to better work with the branch. Then the Dransfields made us all French Toast for dinner which was delicous.

Sunday we went to Jihlava for church. Our bus got their an hour before church and it was poor rain, so we contacted with our umbrellas in the rain. It was pretty fun. Church was great and we talked about forgiveness. Then after church we did more contacting in the rain and got pretty wet, then we went to the Hammon's (senior couple) for lunch which was yummy then took a bus home. We had a lesson with a less active member who is a cute grandma. I really like her a lot. Her name is Sister Machovska. Then we did some tracting in the rain with the Starsi (elders).

It was a good week and I hope you all are doing well at home.
