Brno Life--Follow The Spirit -- October 28, 2019

Čau!

Monday we walked out to a dam and took pictures and saw all the pretty leaves. It was beautiful. Then we had dinner over at the bishop's house with his family. We shared a creative spiritual thought about the restoration.

Tuesday was busy. We had lunch with some members and shared a spiritual thought. Sister Lewis and I did all their dishes. Then we had a lesson cancel on us so we did some finding. After that we taught our English class which was a lot of fun. We have quite a few students. Probably around 15. Then we went to dinner at Simone's house. We made pancakes and had a really good spiritual discussion.

Wednesday morning we had district council which was good. Then we did our studies and went to institute. We had a good group of young single adults come. We had a good discussion about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Afterwards, we ate pizza and played ping pong. It was fun to meet and get to know everyone.

Thursday we got a cake and balloons for Elder Wilson's birthday and then President Gerhing came for interviews. It was really good to talk to him. He's so in tune with the spirit. Then we went and had a lesson with  a less active. Her house was literally one room and a bathroom. She didn't have much, yet was so sweet. We talked about faith and her story of how she met the missionaries and got baptized. Afterwards, we did our studies and then went to dinner with two recent converts and the Elders at a vietnamese Restaurant. It was funny because we got off the bus and a giant field was in front of us. We were in the middle of nowhere which is pretty hard to do in Brno. Then we crossed the street and went to this building and it was like we entered an Asian country. There were a ton of little shops run by foreigners. We went to the restaurant and there was 5 different vietnamese restaurants all in a line and someone standing in front of them. We walked all the way to the end trying to figure out what was going on and all the people out front would say hi to us. They were all trying to convince us to go to their Resturaunt. It was really funny. We got a good laugh out of it and it was so hard for us to pick one.

Friday we had quite the day. We went with the Elders to dedicate a home... there was some scary stuff going on there. Afterwards,  we had a lesson with a member, Lenka, and her two little boys. It was a wild lesson. Those boys have a lot of energy. Then we had a lesson with Naro who is a recent convert. We did our studies and had ward council, in which we were able to discuss our upcoming Halloween party.

Saturday we taught Czech to foreigners which was fun. Afterwards, we invited people to stay for a spiritual thought. A few stayed and we talked about prayer. Then we had 2 people cancel on us that we had set up to do service for. That turned out being a blessing though because it gave us time to do weekly planning. We also had to go shopping because all the shops are closed today for a holiday.

Sunday we had a wonderful sacrament meeting and it was so fun to meet all the members. I also got to see my last mission President's brother and his wife who I served with in Třebič. Bratr Pohořelicky has a stake calling so he travels around between the wards and branches. It was fun to see them. We came home and did studies. Then we went to some members house for inspiration night. We played a game, ate food and had a spiritual thought.

This week I studied a lot about gifts of the spirit. Every single one of us has spiritual gifts. The task is to discover what they are and work to develop them. As I was studying this week, the spirit showed me a spiritual gift that I didn't even know I had. Now, the task is discovering how to develop that gift. I want to invite all of you this week to figure out what your spiritual gifts are and then work to develop them. If you don't know what your spiritual gifts are, pray and ask your Heavenly Father to reveal them to you and study your patriarchal blessing. As you do so, you will become more like Christ and be a better instrument in His hands. Have a wonderful week!

Transfers -- October 21, 2019

Ahoj,

Tuesday was busy. We went and got bus passes so that we can get around the town. We had a lunch appointment with members and got to know their family and shared a spiritual thought. Then we taught the beginners English class and had about 9 students. It was fun, then we had a dinner appointment with a member. This is the most I have ever been fed by members on my mission, well at least in the Czech Republic. It is a big city and we have a ward, so I'm excited.

Wednesday we went out and visited a guy named Christian and his family. He helped us with Czech and then we shared a thought about the Book of Mormon. Then we did some work digitalizing the area book. Then we went and had a dinner appointment with some awesome members. They gave us suggestions on less actives to visit. They are really on top of ward missionary work. The members here are truly incredible. We also got a lady's number on the tram and hopefully we can set up with her.

Thursday morning we had a maintenance guy randomly come and rip off one of our windows. But, he fixed it, so that was nice because it wouldn't open. Then we went to district council at the church and welcomed the new missionary. We set goals for the transfer and then grabbed some pizza for lunch. Then we came home and digitalized the area book. Afterwards, we did some finding at a park and asked people to help us correct our pronunciation in Czech and we read a verse from the Book of Mormon with them. Czechs are a lot more open when you ask them for help. Then we came home and did our studies.

Friday we did our studies in the morning and then went to the church to do weekly planning. Afterwards, we got permission to go on a trip with a recent convert and a person the Elder's are teaching. We went to some catacombs which was cool, but also a little creepy. We then went to a cafe, got some hot chocolate and had a really good lesson. Adam, who is a friend of the church asked some really great questions and the spirit really directed me on what to say and how to best answers his questions. It was a really powerful experience.

Saturday morning we taught Czech to foreigners. We had a big group. We had one Czech person there and she was able to help out which was nice. Afterwards, we invited people to stay for a spiritual thought. A few did, one of them was the Nikola. Nikola is a czech girl the Elders met on the tram. After the thought I was able to talk with her more. She asked what God thinks about people who don't believe. I explained that he is probably really sad. As we talked, she got goosebumps and we explained that it was the holy ghost testifying of truth. From, then on, she started to believe that God maybe exists and she kept thanking us for helping her discover that. She was so sweet and we invited her to come to stake conference with us on Sunday. After that conversation, we had a lesson with Naro. He is a recent convert and I got to hear his story. It was so awesome. Then later, we had stake conference. So many members from Třebič were there and I got to talk to them. It was so much fun. I love them so much. I also got to talk to President and Sister Pohořelicky... my past mission President and his wife. We also chatted with President and Sister Gerhing... my new mission President.

Sunday was stake conference and was broadcasted to everyone from Brno. It was fun to meet all the members and see people I knew that came for the conference. Nikola also came! After the conference, we had a lesson with a recent convert Kuba which was great. Then we came home and did our studies.

The beginning of this week was hard. Change is always a growing experience. It is hard to get into a routine with new companions because everyone does things a little bit differently. However, I found a lot of comfort by reading the Book of Mormon.  That book has the ability to bring peace into our hectic, stressful lives and for that I will be forever grateful. I'm so grateful for my Savior. He has overcome it all through the atonement and thanks to that he always knows how we are feeling. I love my Savior with all of my heart and without him this work wouldn't be possible. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow everyday. This life is all about making progress and sometimes growth hurts, but it is so worth it in the long run.
I love you all! Have a great week!

3 Baptisms & Transfer -- October 14, 2019

Tuesday was our last district council of the transfer! It sure was a spiritual one where we reflected on the transfer and talked about what we learned. Our district leader went around and told each of us things that he learned from us which was really cool. After district council, he gave us our Mantra's which he typed up and framed with a picture of us. My mantra is something that is really special to me. I try to say it everyday. It is the vision I have for myself and the person I want to become. It lists things that I have committed to do everyday and I have signed it at the bottom. It was a really neat gift. Then we had English in the evening and had 6 people in our beginner class which is the most we have had this transfer. Afterwards, we had a lesson with Petr who is a miracle guy we tracted into at some college dormitories. We taught him the restoration and it was a really great lesson.
Wednesday was a really rainy day. We went out to visit Eliška with the Glassers. She has 6 kids and twin girls on the way. She is cute and I dont know how she does everything. We shared a thought with her and brought her a few things. Then we came home and went trackting. We met this cute grandma that invited us to a bible study class and we invited her to church. Then we did our studies and went to a Czech Resturaunt (U tří sedláků) with our district.

Thursday was quite the day. We had a really good needs based lesson with Andrea. It was the most spiritual lesson we have had in a long time. Her heart is being opened again and she is coming back around. Then we went and visited Věra. She wasn't doing super well today and is facing some health problems, but she is a trooper. Afterwards, we had a lesson with Martina who became a new interested person today. We met at a café and taught her the plan of salvation and set up to meet next week. Then we asked a lady on a park bench to helps us with our Czech pronunciation. She agreed and we opened up the Book of Mormon and read with her. Turns out, the missionaries tracted into her 2 years ago and she has a book of Mormon. Her friend came and sat by us too and we invited both of them to our Ping Pong activity. As of now, they are not super interested in the gospel, however, I have faith that they will come around.

Friday was very busy. We did our studies in the morning and then went to visit Pani vlkova. We were able to help clean her house. We swept, mopped, cleaned the windows, and mirrors. It needed it pretty bad and we came out of there smelling like cigarettes so we ran home and changed our clothes. Then we had to head back to the church for our branch ping pong activity. On the way we saw a grandma we tracted into a few days ago with her son clipping their hedges. Even though we were in a hurry, we felt like ae should go help. So we ran over and raked up the clippings and threw them away. We filled up a whole trash can and then had to run. They were super grateful and had big smiles on their faces and invited us to their bible study class. By some miracle, we made it to the church exactly the time we planned on and set up for ping pong. Unfortunately no one really showed up for our activity. Only 1 member, the branch President and his son and the missionaries. So we left early so we could go home and do weekly planning. We had to do weekly planning until 10:30 PM and then jump into bed because we really needed to get it done and didn't have time to do it.

Saturday we woke up at 5:30 AM and got on a train to go to Prague with Radek to watch 3 baptisms. The Plzen sisters in our district had a baptism! His name is Jiři. I met Jiři the very first time he came to church when I was serving in Plzen waiting for sister Draper to come. So it was cool to meet him the very first day when came to church because he read about us and wanted to see what it was like to the day he was baptized. There was another lorain baptized that other missionaries were working with and lastly s cute boy that just turned 8. That was cool to see because children growing up in the church and being baptized when they are 8 is pretty rare here. Radek really enjoyed it and I'm so glad that he came with us and felt the spirit. Also, when we were traveling there we got transfer calls. President told me that I'm going to Brno which is like the 2nd biggest city in the Czech Republic and that I will be in a trio.  I will have 2 really young missionaries. One I will finish follow up training and the other just finished her training. It will be crazy. I'm a little nervous about it. On the train home we met a girl from Turkey coming here to study and got her number to set up and meet with her. I also enjoyed talking to Radek he helped me a lot with my Czech.

Sunday morning I got up and worked on packing, then we went to church. I bore my testimony and helped translate. It was sad to say goodbye to everyone. I have grown to love this branch so much. They will forever be in my heart. Then we had a lesson with Mengmeng and Daquan. It was such a good lesson. We taught them the law of chastity and Mengmeng finally said the closing  prayer for us. It was beautiful and afterwards she said she felt good and warm inside. We explained that it was the holy ghost and that they can always have that feeling. They said they were sad I was leaving, and if they ever are in Brno they will stop by and visit me. It was cute. Then the Chrdlovi family invited us over for dinner with the Elders and the Glassers. They truly have become like a second family to me with their 3 kids Johi, štěpán, and tomáš.  Man, I love them. Then we had correlation with President Chrdle and then I finished packing.

Today I got on a 4.5 hour train to Brno. It will be a long trip.

I love you all and hope you have a good week!

Love,
