Stasty Novy Rok

Ahoj and Happy New Year!

Monday was Christmas for Czechs. We went over to my mission president's brother's house for dinner. We ate carp and potatoe salad and cukrovi. It was pretty good. Then Ježíšek came. They rang the bell for us and we came into the room where their tree was. They lit sparkles (fireworks) and put it on their tree. The branch came together and got us some cute little presents. They gave us a picture of them and each wrote us a little note. It was cute.

Tuesday we went to the Dransfields to celebrate Christmas. We made pancakes and watched a pohadky which is a Czech fairytale. It was fun. We also went and visited some families and less active memebers. We brought a family a Christmas tree and a string of lights because they didn't have any decorations! It was fun! Then we had dinner with the Dransfields and played some games!

Wednesday was technically still christmas. We walked to the Dransfields so that we could go visit Sister Prohaskova. As we were walking, I noticed a guy sitting down by a garage and just got a really bad feeling about him. We walked passed and as we did, he got up and started following us, then he was yelling at us... "where are you going?" We were hiking up a pretty big hill at this point and we sped up becuase we were scared. He followed us clear up the hill and it took us a few blocks to lose him. It was pretty scary. He yelled at us the whole way. We visited sister Prohaskova, who lives off basic necessities. She fed us lunch and showed us picture of the missionaies that were there right when they opened the mission back up after communism. She showed us a picture with President Nelson, our branch president and mission president too. It was pretty cool. This woman is amazing! She has been through so much in her life and has been so strong in the gospel. I love her. Then we visited Eva.. one of our investigators and shared a message with her then we taught English to our neighbor boys.

Thursday we had zone conference in Prague. We had a talent show and watched Cinderella the Czech Pohadky. it was eally cute! We slept over at the STL's in Prague with 6 other sisters. Sleeping was a little rough. We pushed some twin beds together and crammed on. haha.

Friday we had the spiritual part of zone conference. We recieved some good training. Then we drove home and went contacting. We did some calls to set up appointments and did weekly planning.

Saturday I woke up in the morning a little discouraged with the work because we talk to so many people every day, but just get flat out rejected. I just haven't seen any fruits to our labors, so that morning I prayed to see miracles. GOD ANSWERS PRAERS. Literally everyone we contacted that morning stopped and talked to us and we were able to teach them gospel principles.  We met a guy from Prague that spoke English and taught him in English. While we were teaching him, one of the Elder's investigators came up and introduced himself. That was way cool. We talked to another guy from Ukraine and set up a meeting. Heavenly Father put so many prepared people in our path. Later that night we went to a little vesnica and tracted. We talked to a cute old man for a while, finally he invited us in for tea. We had tea and cukrovi and we taught him the restoration! It was awesome! That was the first time I have been let into a house tracting! We tried SOOO hard to get a return appointment set up, but he wasn't going for it. It was a good day however.

Sunday we found out we were really close to hitting standards which is 6 new investigators, a new baptismal date, and 1 new person at church for our district. The elders had 3 new people at church and we just needed 1 more new investigator. A new investigator is someone you have a lesson with and get a return appointment scheduled. We had 3 lessons with new people fall through!!!! We said a prayer and asked for help to find a new person to teach. We frantically went through our area book to try to get something set up. Didn't work...so we went out to work. I got the prompting that we needed to visit a cute mom we had contacted on the street and set up with, but the lesson fell through. We hurried to her house. We litterally caught her on the way out the door. She had her coat on and was ready to leave, but she invited us in for tea and cookies and we taught her and got a return appointment set up! heavenly father answers prayers everyone and we met standards this week! We also tracted an entire neighborhood after our lesson for like 5 hours and had a few houses tell us we could come back. On the  way home out of the corner of my eye, I saw a lady, and then I felt like I needed to go talk to her. She was kinda far away, but we chased her down and talked to her. She didn't believe in God, but she believed in something. The gift of tongues kicked in and I started saying some things that I didn't even know I knew how to say. It was a pretty cool experience. Her jaw litterally dropped, like her mouth was open when she found out that I have only been here a month and a half. It was funny. My language is pretty poor, but the gift of tongues is real.

Also this week more than ever, I've learned what a difference it makes to be enthusiastic in contacting people. It takes them by surprise here and they wonder why you are so happy. It also makes people's days!

Today we went on a hike through a field. I was so surprised to see how many people were out! When Czech's go hiking... they go hiking! They have hiking poles, boots, backpacks... and all they have here are little hills. It is pretty funny. Czech's are so cute. We also went and sat in a hunting blind that was on the edge of a field.... it brought back memories and made me think of my dad and brothers. I love you guys. We got pretty muddy however, and my shoes each weighed 20 lbs from being caked in mud. It was fun though!

I love you all and happy new year!

Creepy Guy, Garage & Alcohol

Ahoj!!!!! Veselé Vánocé!!!! (Merry Christmas)

I'm so grateful for my Savior and that we get to celebrate his birth! He is my best friend! He lifts me up when I'm sad and laughs with me when I am happy. I feel so honored to testify about him everyday and invite others to come unto him.

Monday we went to Jihlava and went Christmas shopping! We hung out at the Trhy (litle shops on the town square) and I ate my first Tredelnik (it is like a churro) SO YUMMY! Then we came home and conacted and went ponolocking! We invited everyone to church on Sunday.

Tuesday we did some group finding with the Elders. We blew up light the world balloons and took them to the town square to invited people to church. This one guy stopped us and flipped open his wallet and was like..."I'm a police... what are you doing?" We told him we were missionaries and that we were giving balloons to people and inviting them to church. We gave him a balloon and he went away. We talked to a cool guy and taught him the whole restoration on the street! I love teaching on the street! That is something we are trying to do more. A lot of people know about us but they don't know what we believe. A lot of them won't even give us a chance, so we are trying to just straight up teach people now! We had district council. Then later in the evening we taught the beginner English class. Then the STL's came and slept over.

Wednesday we went on exchanges with the STL's. We saw so many miracles! We got around 8 people's numbers that day! The STL's are very bold and persistent in their contacting. If someone says they are hurring, they walk right beside them and talk to them. If someone says they are not interested, they keep talking to them anyways and chase them down. It is pretty fun to watch. I think sister Roberts and I needed that because we are both a little more timid in our contact approaches. We had a super awkward conact with one guy. He was eating something and we started talking to him... then he said... I'm eating... he looked like he was going to swallow his food and then answer our question... then he took a nibble, and then he took another big bite. It was so awkward. Sister Carrillo gave me the funniest look becuase we were both so confused. It took all I had not to laugh. When he finished his food we kept talking to him. It was pretty awkard though!

Thursday we went to Jihlava and did some group finding by carroling and handing out balloons. It was a lot of fun. I am getting a lot better at solo contacting, but it is still pretty scary because I still don't understand everything they are saying. We had inspiration night and played games and then watched a video and had a gospel discussion. It is very successful in terms of missionary work! We had a lot of non memebers there. We talked to a cool guy on the bus ride home... I hate bus contacting... it is always dead silent on those buses and so everyone listens to your entire conversation.

Friday we did more group finding here in Trebic. The AP's were here on exchanges with our Zone leaders. We built a tower out of Kniha Mormonova's and put a string of christmas lights around it. Some sang while the rest solo contacted. I solo contacted a lady and taught her the entire restoration by myself and gave her a book of Mormon, It was pretty awesome and I needed to do that to help myself realized that I can speak more Czech than I think and that people really can understand what I am saying. It was a good experience for me. Then we went and helped introduce the Dransfields (The senior couple from Idaho) to their neighbors. This cute grandma answered through the window and was so confused about what we wanted... she just referred us to the neighbors and we kept trying to explain that we were the neighbors. It was funny.

Saturday we did a lot of contacting and tracting. This whole week we have invited everyone to church. Then we went to an Old Folks home with our branch and sang the christmas songs that we have been practicing! It was so much fun! They were all singing along. It was really cute. I really liked what Elder Dransfield said, "They will remember that and be converted on the other side." I thought that was really cool.

Sunday we went to Jihlava and sang 4 songs for their christmas program. Sister Roberts and I sang a duet.. I was super nervous, but it went ok. The Jihlava branch doesn't have a ton of musical ability, so it was quite the sacarment meeting. it was an entertaining one for sure! Then we went back to trebic. One of the people we found in our area book that we invited came! That was awesome! We probably had 50 people there! The chapel was completely full! That is the most people I have ever seen at church here! It was amazing! Talks were given during church. After church, the primary acted out the nativity and it was super cute. Then we sang the songs we had been practicing. Then we had a ton of cukrovi (little cookies). It was a fun party! We were very pleased with the turnout!

Now for the story you have been waiting for...  Sunday night we went tracting and carroling with the Elders... we got to this one house and sang for a guy. He put on shoes, and grabbed his coat and came outside. He told us to follow him and he took us to his garage. He opened his garage and went inside, then he came out and he pointed at me and said "come" I was scared to death!!!! I went in his garage and he opened a cupboard, it was full of little bottles. We told him that we don't drink alchol. He told us it wasn't alchol and gave us each a bottle. He opened his and cheered us and we told him we would drink ours later. He also gave us a bunch of candy. When we left we read on the bottles. They were 15% alchol. We dumped them out when we got back to the church. Also, we got cukrovi at 2 other houses... one of them gave us a whole container, we ended up throwing it away because we weren't sure if it had alchol or not.

Those were my adventures this week!

Merry Christmas!

Week Full Of Travels

Ahoj! Jak se mate?

Tento tyden byl moc skvely! (This week was very awesome)

Monday we visited Namest' and hiked up to a Zamek (Mansion) We took a train there are were surrounded by people our age which was weird because we are living completely different lives. We talked to one of them though and she was way cool! We did some tracting there too and talked to some awesome people!

Tuesday we traveled 2.5 hours to Prague because my companion had visa work! We went on exchanges and I did some contacting in Prague. Missionary work is super hard in Prague because a lot  of the people we contacted into were tourists. We went and got some super yummy food for lunch at the place President Po took us out to eat at my first day in the country. Then we took a bus back and it was snowing super hard. The roads were slick and the bus ran into the back of a car, so that delayed us for a bit. Everything ended up being fine and we kept going.

Wednesday we did all of our studies in the morning. We do 3 hours of studies everyday. Personal study, Companion study, and language study. Then a lesson we had set up fell through so we went contacting and visited some houses that said we could return. None of them ended up being home which was too bad. We will have to try them again. That evening we practiced our songs for the Christmas program and had branch council afterwards. Our mission president came by and dropped off some sisters from Slovakia to crash the night with us because they had Mission Leadership Training the next day.

Thursday was super crazy. We walked the Sisters to the church building so that they didn't get lost. Then we went to Jihlava for a christmas party. It was very successful! We had 11 people there who weren't members. In fact, there were more non members than there were members! It was fun to show everyone my photo book and get to know them better. There was a cute little 8 year old girl there that became my best friend and followed me around everywhere!

Friday we had progressive training in Slovkia. My mission president and his wife picked us up and drove us there because they were still in Trebic from Mission Leadership Conference. It was a 2.5 hour drive there and back. I really love my mission President. He is a great guy. I'm so lucky because literally all of his family is in the branch I serve in. He used to be branch president for 15 years here before he was called as mission president.

Saturday the senior couple came! They are from Idaho! We have been waiting for them forever! They finally got their visas and are here! They followed behind us in there car to district council in Jihlava. I taught language study to everyone. I was a little nervous about it, but it went well. We did some group finding and we got a cute mom's number and are going to set up with her after the holidays. Then we  came home and taught our little neighbor boys english.

Sunday was an awesome day! The Senior couple bore such powerful testimonies. The missionaries translated them into Czech for the ward. It was cool. We sure do have awesome members here. They are so strong! We practiced our songs for our program next Sunday. Then we took the Kutilovi girls and went out and contacted about our 1 hour christmas church next sunday. One of them is preparing to go on a mission right now. They are the sweetest girls you will ever meet. Sister Roberts and I split up and each of us went with a twin. (the Kutiolovi girls are twins). Someone we contacted asked one of the Kutilovi girls and I were sisters. It was kinda funny! Then that evening we went caroling with the Elders and people kept trying to give us money... I guess in January they do a fundraiser. People sing and then the houses give them money. We did get into one lady's house and sang a few more songs and talked to here about the gospel... so that was really cool! She was cute.

It has been a busy week but a great week. I love you all and hope you have a Merry Christmas! God loves you and he sent his son here for you. Your Savior knows your name and knows exactly how you are feeling. He cries with you when you are sad and he regoices when you are happy. Have a wonderful time celebrating his birth. I love you all!

St. Mikulos

ahoj!

This week was a great week. It was a Czech holiday on wednsday which was way fun. I also learned that there are only 24 sister missionaries in my misison. 16 of which are in the Czech Republic. I feel a great weight and responsiblitiy on my shoulders to bring the Czech's the gospel, but at the same time, I also feel so honored that Heavenly Father trusts me enough to do the work here. I have been thinking a lot about that this week.

Monday we placed tracting letters and tried to contact people, but literally no one was on the street. It was transfers so we went to dinner with the Elders. Our district pretty much stayed the same. We got one new Elder who came over from Slovakia so he mostly speaks Slovak but it is close enough to Czech that he gets by.

Tuesday we had District Council. We did a lot of contacting. There was this one lady clear on the other side of a busy road. I grabbed my compaion and I was like ''Let's cross the street, we need to talk to this lady.'' We talked to her and had a good conversation which was nice because most people just say they are in a hurry and run away. She has meet missionaries before and has a Kniha Mormonova but has never read it. We encouraged her to do so and tried to set up a meeting, but she wasn't interested in that. We gave her our contact info, so hopefully she will have a change of heart and call us. Then we taught English and it was really fun. We played the game Headbands and shared a spritual thought. We can find a lot of cool people to teach the gospel to through teacing English classes here.

Wednesday was a holiday in the Czech Republic. Svatý Mikuloš  is a saint and he tells children that they are both good and bad. There is an Angel that tells kids they are good and a Devil for the bad kids... all the kids are scared of the devil. A lot of kids dressed up with devil horns and stuff it was cute. The kids went up onto a stage and sang a song or performed a poem for St. Mikols and then they got a treat. It is kinda like Halloween... a little bit. We had a lesson with Renata. She is a very strong catholic. She still isn't sure if the Kniha Mormonova is true. She doesn't believe that preisthood authority was ever lost which makes it difficult for her to accept the restoration. She is such a sweet lady though... I seriouly love her and love meeting with her. It is always such a blessing when we are able to have a lesson with someone.

Thursday we did a lot of contacting and didn't have a whole lot of luck. Everyone is in a hurry here to catch a bus or train. We did our weekly planning and sent our members and uplifting text about light the world. Our lesson we set up last week with three teenage girls fell through which was sad. We also taught our little neighbor boys English. They are fun kids.

Friday we returned to the street we left tracting letters at and Satan was hard at work. They hard ripped out the sidewalk on part of the street we left all the letters at so we couldn't get to all the houses. It was so sad. Later that day we contacted into a little miracle. There was a cute mom with her little girl on the side of the road that we talked to and got her number, address, and set up a return appointment with. It was funny because we were in a hurry to get to the relief society activity, but we contacted her anyways... Miracles always come in the craziest times. The relief society activity was way fun. We were greeted by one of the sweet members with a kiss on the cheek... I'm pretty sure Czech's only do that with people they are close to. She is the most christlike lady I have ever met though. I love her so much. We did some crafts and made some little cookies. Babíčka (my mission president's mom) gave me a kiss on the cheek when I left which was way cool because that means she is finally my friend... She is always so formal with the missionaries... so it was an honor to be treated that way. On the way home someone whistled at us and we just ignored it at first, but then a car pulled up next to us and it was ROSTILAV! One of the people we are teaching. It was way funny! We just said ahoj and they drove away. He was in a taxi with some people which is cool because now he has an opportunity to tell everyone in the car who we are and what we do!

Saturday Sister Longhurst and her family came with us to lessons we set up. Sister Longhurst finished her mission and is visiting all her areas with her parents before she goes home. We had a lesson with Martin who is a newer memeber and we went to lunch with Petr who is a guy that decided he wasn't interested in the gospel just before I came in. It is good that he is still friends with us though. Then we jumped on a train and went to a lesson with a lady named Dona. She has such a long history with the missionaries. She talked our ear off and we went on a walk with her and her dog. She isn't super interested in the gospel sadly.

Sunday we had an awesome time at church. I made it a goal to greet every single person that was there and I accomplished it. I also got to know the YW better. The branch President's daughter speaks pretty good English so I enjoyed talking to her and she helped me with my Czech. Afterwards we went tracting for about 5 hours. We met and talked to some cool people, we had some doors slammed on our face... but it was good. Another interesting thing about the Czech Republic is that people answer you through their windows here. They don't always come to the door. If they are upstairs they will just open the window and yell down at you. It is funny.

I love being a missionary. I love the Czech Republic and feel so blessed to be here. The members here are so sturdy and have such firm testimonies of the gospel, which has in turn strengthend mine. I know this church is true... if you are questioning it... read the Book of Mormon... Specifically Moroni 10:4-5 and pray about it. I know if you do so, you will recieve your own personal witness that this church is true.

I love you all,

Sestra Guymon

The pic with the blue lights is the Jewish quarters. It is one of the biggest and well-preserved places where Jews have lived.. it survived the bombings.
We take trains or buses everywhere... or we walk.
The relief society activity.
We made homemade tortillas one night for dinner which were way good.
The street we tried to tract.. that we couldn't because they were working on the sidewalk.

AND THE ST. Mikulos video is the best. :)

A Week Of Miracles

Ahoj všichni,

Specific planning did bring miracles this week.

Monday we went and dropped off tracting letters to some house and then tracted a street. We wanted to find a babíčka (grandma)... literally the entire street we tracted had babíčký, at the door. It was amazing! One of the last houses we knocked was very promising and she said we could come back and talk with her more! We had two other people tell us we could come back, that was super cool! I watched Heavenly Father's work go down right before my eyes.

Tuesday we wanted to find a middle aged woman by contacting about trials and challenges. I found a scripture in my personal study, Alma 38:5 about that topic. We rewrote the scripture on a card,  and left a spot to for people's names to make it more personal. It was a hit! Heavenly Father put so many middle aged women in our path. One of them we even exchanged numbers with!!!! Another woman we talked to... we asked her how her day was and she said terrible. We asked why, and she said her husband just passed away and she was coming back from the cemetary. We shared that scripture with her and tried to brighten her spirits. We also had a lesson with a guy named Rostislav. He is in his 30's and loves music. I played If you could hie to kolob for him on the piano to get a gospel conversation started, and he asked a lot of great questions. He is a really deep thinker and is studying quantum mechanics. He has buddest beleifs, cool guy though. Then we taught English to the begginners and it was really good for me, because I was learning a lot of Czech at the same time. Then the Sister Training Leaders came and we went to dinner.

Wednesday we went on exchanges with the STL's. Sister Carrillo and I went to a lesson with a woman named Ronata and taught the restoration. Although my Czech is very broken, the spirit was able to come into the lesson so strong when I bore my simple testimony about the Kniha Mormonova and recited the first vision that I memorized. It was such a good lesson. :) Then we went tracting... a lady answered the door and wasn't wearing any pants. It took me by surprise. Afterwards Sister Carrillo was just laughing at me becuase she says it happens all the time during the summer especially... except they have less clothes on. Then we tracted this house that had automatic lights and in the middle of talking to a man, the light turned out and Sister Carrillo just starts jumping and waving her hands tyring to turn on the light... I lost it... it was so funny.... the guy thought it was pretty funny too.

Thursday my mission Presidents mom, who is in my branch fed us lunch. We call her our babíčka (grandma) and she is so cute. She fed us so much food and it was so good! I talked her into letting me do the dishes... she wasn't having it at first, but I couldn't really understand what she was saying, so I just started doing them anyway. She was grateful though. It was my way of saying thanks becuase I can't really communicate very well. We went contacting and wanted to find a girl our age. We ran into so many of them. We talked about service and approached a group of three girls. They said they were interested in learning more about what we teach, so we got their number and set up a return appointment!!! That was awesome! MIRACLES!

Friday we had a lesson with Martin. He has been a member for a year, but is struggling. He got in a fight at a bar and his face was swolen, cut up, and bloody. Poor guy... we don't know what to do to help him. Our lesson with David fell through for the 3rd time so we went contacting for 2.5 hours. Literally no one was on the street. Everyone leaves the city and goes to their little cottages on the weekend. It makes the work hard, it was also freezing cold. We went to Jihlava in the evning for a relief society activity and made fun Christmas decorations. I really enjoyed it.

Saturday was a day of service. We went to a members house the Kutilovi's. They have 6 kids. They fed us lunch... Don't every eat fried Califlour... it is gross. We made christmas cards, christmas wreats, and decorated gingerbread. We had a little christmas concert becuase one of their sons and Starší Graff play the violin. They sounded great!

Sunday I was super sick... not a fun day... We called the mission nurse and she told me that I needed to stay home. It was awful. I basically just slept all day. I'm feeling a lot better now though. I don't know if it was from the food the day before, or like a 24 hour flu bug. We also walked to the town square and watched them turn the christmas tree lights on... I wasn't feeling that up to it, but I could tell my companion really wanted to go, so we went. :)

That was my week! I love you all!

First Full Week in Trebic

Dobre Den!!!!

Wow, so this week has been crazy! My brain hurts from trying to translate stuff all day.My companion told me that I talk in my sleep in Czech, so I'm literally practicing 24 hours a day. She said I had a pretty solid contact attempt in my sleep. I think it is hilarious!

Monday we went to jihlava to try to get flu shots for the missionaries in our district. We took forever to find the place and when we did it was closed ... oops. We also visited a cool Cathedral and I bought a winter coat.

Tuesday we contacted people in the snow for most of the day. We had a lesson with a man named Martin, he has been a member for about a year, but is really struggling right now. Afterwards, we taught an English class. That was super fun because I could actually understand what was going on. :) The milk here is strange. It is in a box and they don't refridgerate it. I found out that they heat it up to like 200 degrees C. to kill all the alive things in it. It is super strange. It tastes different too. The milk lasts a long time though.

Wednesday we took a bus to jihlava and did some group finding. Basically we sang hymns in the street while other missionaries contacted. It was super awkward and we had a lot of people tell us to stop, but we just kept singing! When it was my turn to contact people by myself, I got into a really good conversation with this lady about the book of mormon. I testified about it and had her read Moroni 10:4-5. She then shared a scripture with me out of the bible. I had no idea what it said. Then I gave her our number, and she pulled out a Jehova's Witness card. So that was awkward! haha I contacted a JW. OOPS! oh well. Then we came home and taught English to our 2 little neighbor boys.

Thursday was thanksgiving and we had Zone Conference. We traveled there on a train. I said the opening prayer in czech which was super scary to do in front of everyone. It was ok though, becuase they have all been in my place.  I was able to listen to it in English because they gave me a translator, so that was nice. We also had a nice thanksgiving meal with our zone. There are probably about 30 misisonaries in our zone. There are about 70 missionaries overall in this mission. Then we went back to Trebič and we had another little district meeting. We had a devotional and watched a movie about Joseph Smith. That was my thanksgiving.

Friday we contacted a lot of people. We are trying to be more specific, so we wanted to find a 17 year old girl. Heavenly Father put a lot of them in our path and it was fun to talk to them. I don't know if anything will come out of it, but planting seeds anyways.

Saturday we pulled adresses from the area book and tracted them. We got soaking wet, it wasn't raining, but we were literally walking through a cloud. The humidity was crazy. There was one man that told us that we could come back becuase he had visitors over at the moment. One is better than none!  Then we did weekly planning and made it super specific like they asked us to do at Zone Conference. We split our area up into 7 sections and assigned a specific person we wanted to find that day, like a middle aged man for example. Then we figured out how we were going to contact them specifically. We are hoping to see miracles this we because of that. Then we came home and made Czech cookies. The recipie was in grams so we did our best guessing to convert it back into cups. They didn't turn out to bad! haha!

Sunday we went to Jihlava for church. I had to play the piano in Sacrament, give a prayer in Sunday school, and teach a lesson to the primary kids. haha. It was a full day. The branches here are just so small. Like you are lucky if you get 20 people at church. It is way different than in America. Then we went back to Třebič and tracted. We gave one book of mormon away to a lady only becuase she said her friend might be interested. But hey, we got a book of mormon in their house! Then we went to a members house and practiced Christmas songs. We are going to sing them on the naměstí (town square) this christmas, and I think in church too! It is a lot of fun!

Today we went on a vylet to Telč! It is super pretty. Then the rest of the day we ran errands and finished some shopping things. Tonght we are going to put letters about us in people's mail boxes so we can come back later this week to talk to the people that are prepared to hear the gospel!

I love you all so much!

Czech Republic

ajoh!
this keyboard is in czech so this is a struggle. I made it! The jet lag is a struggle. It is all I can do to keep my eyes open sometimes.
the last two weeks have been crazy. Don was baptized last week and we hopefully had three more baptisms this past saturday with the sander boys.... i have not heard yet.

the flight was super long. the first day in the Czech republic we took a tour around pragu. The mission president took us out to a fancy restaurant and we had svečkova which is a classic Czech dish that was pretty good. I also tried my first kofola which is like a czech version of coke... it was interesting... had lots of spices in it.  then went to our areas. I am serving in Třebíč with Sister Roberts. She is actually from Heber city too. We knew of each other, but we had never really talked before... so that is super cool. I love her so much! This mission is amazing. I am really impressed with how obedient the missionaries are.

Thursday we went to the store and the stores here are weird. Europe is so different. The loaves of bread are way different than in America. The food is pretty good. We had a district council in jihlava and stayed there most of the day.

Friday we contacted a bunch of people. I honestly have no idea what is going on most of the time. I can't understand a whole lot. I say my 2 sentences to approach people and my comp covers the rest. Hopefully the language will come with some time. It is nothing like English. You really have to know words to be able to understand what is going on.

Saturday we drew a chalk message on the street. It was a struggle with the cobblestones. they are literally everywhere and super hard to walk on... my feet have been pretty sore. We went contacting in like an outdoor mall type think similar to the outlets in park city. We actually had some success. I gave out my first book of mormon. Czechs are so interesting to contact. People say they don't have time and keep walking, or just ignore you. It is unusual for people to just say hi to you on the street while you are walking by, but it is kinda fun because it surprises people. Later that evening we went tracting in ponolocks which is like apartment buildings that people live in during the weekdays then they go to their house in the country during the weekend, so no one is on the streets in the weekend, in fact, they turn off all the crosswalks. In ponolocks you sit and ring doorbells until someone answers and lets you in the door so you can go up and talk to him. Yeah... so we definitely got swore at by some guy. He wasn't to happy with us ringing everyone's doorbells. For dinner, we made another classic Czech dish called halušký. it was pretty good.

Sunday I met the members. We have one branch here and about 30 people come to church. I had to give a talk and that was super scary. I was super self-conscious of my horrible Czech. The members are sweet though and I felt very welcomed. That night we went to visit a sweet old lady with the President of the branch. She lives off the bare necessities. She doesn't have running water. She uses a pot for a toilet. She doesn't have a fridge and cooks everything on a tiny wood burning stove. We basically had church with her in her house and had sacrament and everything. It was interesting for sure. It started snowing when we got out of her house. Then that evening we all got together with the members and sang czech christmas hymns. We had a little band going and it was pretty fun!

Also my aunt is awesome and made a blog for me with all my emails if you want to check that out. kylieguymon.blogspot.com

Coming to the Last Week in Caldwell Idaho

Dobre Den!

I hope everyone had a good week! This week I have been working on following the promptings of the spirit. So, whenever I receive a simple thought, I have done my best to act on it, and it has been incredible.

Monday we had a big p-day with everyone. We played basketball, volleyball, warewolf, and carved pumpkins. President called me and told me my visa had come and it was so exciting. Then we had dinner with a family who we did service for last week with our district. It was really good. Then we had round two of dinner with Don. He had a really rough day, so we spent the evening cheering him up.

Tuesday we had another lesson with Don and he bore a powerful testimony to us. He told us how he had come to know that God existed and how he knows God hears and answers his prayers. He had cancer and prayed to God looking for a sign that he wasn't going to hell, not long after that the doctors called and said his cancer was gone. Then within that week, the missionaries found him. He shared that he has smoked for 60 years and has tried to quit in the past, but couldn't do it. However, this time when he tried, he was able to. He said every time he felt tempted, he said a prayer. He is amazing and is so ready to be baptized. We also went to visit Christy. She apologized for not coming to church but, she really wasn't able to make it because her car broke down. She told me she had a friend from the Czech Republic that speaks Czech, and I asked her to give her my number and ask if she would be willing to help me practice.

Wednesday was a super cold day. We contacted a bunch of people and ran into some interesting situations. We tried to help an old lady move, but she wasn't home. Then we went to dinner with the Spanish sisters to a really awesome family. They spoke Spanish the whole time, but it was super fun. I could only understand a little bit of the conversation due to my 2 years in Spanish in high school. We had to be in by 6:00 for Halloween. So I did a lot of language study that night.

Thursday was a super busy day. We did weekly planning. Then I got to call the Czech lady because Christy got us her number! Her name is Dougmar. Christy told me that she is an alcoholic. It was fun to talk to her though. She told me a lot about the Czech cultures and traditions. She told me to call her back at 3:00, so I did. I she was totally wasted. She couldn't remember a lot of Czech words that I asked her how to say. It was kinda funny though. We had a lesson with the Sander boys which went really well. They ask a lot of great questions. They are on baptismal date for November 17th, which is sad because I will miss them by a week! That evening we had a new convert lesson with Andrew. There are three little boys in that home and they are so full of energy. It is impossible to get them to sit still.

Friday was busy too. We contacted a lot of people. I called Dougmar and talked to her. She is helping with my Czech a little, but we mostly end up speaking in English because we can't understand each other in Czech. I have a accent that she struggles to understand through the phone. She wanted me to come to Bosie to talk to her, but that is out of our area and mission, so we can't. We went clear out in the farm lands where the houses are spread out to go see if we could find a few people. They ended not being home. I felt super strongly that I should go knock on a door of a blue house. I asked sister Brooks, "Do  you think we should knock that door?" She said, "Well, it sounds like you got a spiritual prompting, so let's go." We knocked it and no one was home. So we wrote a little message on a pass-a-long card to leave in the door. Just then a school bus pulled up and dropped off a girl. She walked up and talked to us. She is a sophomore in High School. Her family is catholic but they haven't been to church in a really long time. It was really cool to talk to her. She was so put together and I was impressed by her.We talked a little about our church and what we believed.  But, if I had not acted on that prompting and knocked on the door at that specific time, I would have missed the opportunity to talk to her. It was a cool experience. Right place, right time, with the right people. That evening we had a lesson with Don and broke the news that we were probably both leaving. Me for sure, but probably Sister Brooks too. He took it pretty well, surprisingly. We talked about his baptism. His daughter has told him he is making a mistake, but he feels good about being baptized. Don is so awesome.

Saturday we again got in contact with as many people as we could. I talked to Dougmar again.I asked her if I could practice teaching her lessons in Czech from my religion and she said it was ok. But she doesn't know a lot of the church lingo, like she isn't familiar with religion at all, so it is really hard. She doesn't have the same Vocab that I do. She knows good conversational Czech words, I only know gospel related words, so it is really hard. That evening we had a new convert lesson with Justina, we had Colten there too. He is 9 and we are getting him ready to be baptized. They are awesome kids. Then we went and talked to Christy the Russian with the super strong accent. We invited her to church again. Then we stopped by to visit Don and just say hello and check up on him.

Sunday we had 6 people we are teaching come to church! The three Sander boys, Don, Christy, and Colten. We were so excited that Christy came. She is awesome. It hit Don today that we were leaving, so he was really sad. They announced it in church and I was asked to give the opening prayer. Then that evening, our power was out for some reason, and the power guys were working on it... So we were in the dark for a while.

That was my week! I hope you all are doing well!

Love,

Sestra Guymon

P.S. I fly out November 13th. I go to the Bosie airport, then I fly to Seattle, then to Amsterdam, then to Prague and I will be there November 14th.

When we were biking in the farm land there was a pond full of hundreds of Ducks and it made me think of my brothers.
