ahoj!
This week was a great week. It was a Czech holiday on wednsday which was way fun. I also learned that there are only 24 sister missionaries in my misison. 16 of which are in the Czech Republic. I feel a great weight and responsiblitiy on my shoulders to bring the Czech's the gospel, but at the same time, I also feel so honored that Heavenly Father trusts me enough to do the work here. I have been thinking a lot about that this week.
Monday we placed tracting letters and tried to contact people, but literally no one was on the street. It was transfers so we went to dinner with the Elders. Our district pretty much stayed the same. We got one new Elder who came over from Slovakia so he mostly speaks Slovak but it is close enough to Czech that he gets by.
Tuesday we had District Council. We did a lot of contacting. There was this one lady clear on the other side of a busy road. I grabbed my compaion and I was like ''Let's cross the street, we need to talk to this lady.'' We talked to her and had a good conversation which was nice because most people just say they are in a hurry and run away. She has meet missionaries before and has a Kniha Mormonova but has never read it. We encouraged her to do so and tried to set up a meeting, but she wasn't interested in that. We gave her our contact info, so hopefully she will have a change of heart and call us. Then we taught English and it was really fun. We played the game Headbands and shared a spritual thought. We can find a lot of cool people to teach the gospel to through teacing English classes here.
Wednesday was a holiday in the Czech Republic. Svatý Mikuloš is a saint and he tells children that they are both good and bad. There is an Angel that tells kids they are good and a Devil for the bad kids... all the kids are scared of the devil. A lot of kids dressed up with devil horns and stuff it was cute. The kids went up onto a stage and sang a song or performed a poem for St. Mikols and then they got a treat. It is kinda like Halloween... a little bit. We had a lesson with Renata. She is a very strong catholic. She still isn't sure if the Kniha Mormonova is true. She doesn't believe that preisthood authority was ever lost which makes it difficult for her to accept the restoration. She is such a sweet lady though... I seriouly love her and love meeting with her. It is always such a blessing when we are able to have a lesson with someone.
Thursday we did a lot of contacting and didn't have a whole lot of luck. Everyone is in a hurry here to catch a bus or train. We did our weekly planning and sent our members and uplifting text about light the world. Our lesson we set up last week with three teenage girls fell through which was sad. We also taught our little neighbor boys English. They are fun kids.
Friday we returned to the street we left tracting letters at and Satan was hard at work. They hard ripped out the sidewalk on part of the street we left all the letters at so we couldn't get to all the houses. It was so sad. Later that day we contacted into a little miracle. There was a cute mom with her little girl on the side of the road that we talked to and got her number, address, and set up a return appointment with. It was funny because we were in a hurry to get to the relief society activity, but we contacted her anyways... Miracles always come in the craziest times. The relief society activity was way fun. We were greeted by one of the sweet members with a kiss on the cheek... I'm pretty sure Czech's only do that with people they are close to. She is the most christlike lady I have ever met though. I love her so much. We did some crafts and made some little cookies. Babíčka (my mission president's mom) gave me a kiss on the cheek when I left which was way cool because that means she is finally my friend... She is always so formal with the missionaries... so it was an honor to be treated that way. On the way home someone whistled at us and we just ignored it at first, but then a car pulled up next to us and it was ROSTILAV! One of the people we are teaching. It was way funny! We just said ahoj and they drove away. He was in a taxi with some people which is cool because now he has an opportunity to tell everyone in the car who we are and what we do!
Saturday Sister Longhurst and her family came with us to lessons we set up. Sister Longhurst finished her mission and is visiting all her areas with her parents before she goes home. We had a lesson with Martin who is a newer memeber and we went to lunch with Petr who is a guy that decided he wasn't interested in the gospel just before I came in. It is good that he is still friends with us though. Then we jumped on a train and went to a lesson with a lady named Dona. She has such a long history with the missionaries. She talked our ear off and we went on a walk with her and her dog. She isn't super interested in the gospel sadly.
Sunday we had an awesome time at church. I made it a goal to greet every single person that was there and I accomplished it. I also got to know the YW better. The branch President's daughter speaks pretty good English so I enjoyed talking to her and she helped me with my Czech. Afterwards we went tracting for about 5 hours. We met and talked to some cool people, we had some doors slammed on our face... but it was good. Another interesting thing about the Czech Republic is that people answer you through their windows here. They don't always come to the door. If they are upstairs they will just open the window and yell down at you. It is funny.
I love being a missionary. I love the Czech Republic and feel so blessed to be here. The members here are so sturdy and have such firm testimonies of the gospel, which has in turn strengthend mine. I know this church is true... if you are questioning it... read the Book of Mormon... Specifically Moroni 10:4-5 and pray about it. I know if you do so, you will recieve your own personal witness that this church is true.
I love you all,
Sestra Guymon
The pic with the blue lights is the Jewish quarters. It is one of the biggest and well-preserved places where Jews have lived.. it survived the bombings.
We take trains or buses everywhere... or we walk.
The relief society activity.
We made homemade tortillas one night for dinner which were way good.
The street we tried to tract.. that we couldn't because they were working on the sidewalk.
AND THE ST. Mikulos video is the best. :)
