When The Mission President Shows Up at Your House -- May 27, 2019

Ahoj všem,

Wow, this week has been exhausting. I've never been so tired and stressed in my entire life! We have been so insanely busy, but I love it!

Tuesday was a busy day. We took a bus in the morning to the Glasser's house for district council. Then we did some group finding and did a singing display. I talked to one man who was not open at all at first, but then I got him talking and it turned into a really great conversation. I gave him a Kniha Mormonova and a card. Then we had our English class. One of the formers we invited from the area book came!!! Also, one of our students gave us a box of chocolates which was funny because they had alcohol in them (as does pretty much everything here). For our spiritual thought after English we talked about the plan of salvation. The man we invited, Jaroslav, had some great questions about life after death. After the English spiritual thought, we pulled him aside and answered his questions and set up to meet with him later in the week. Then on the way home we gave the box of chocolates to a random man on the street. It was HILARIOUS! He was really confused but thanked us. Haha.

Wednesday we had our hands full. Early in the morning the Glassers drove us to visit a returning member. She has 5 kids all under the age of 6! We took her shopping to get her some things she needed and then shared a spiritual thought with her. It was fun to talk with her. Then the Glassers took us straight to Věra's house and we shared a spiritual thought with her. Then we ran over to have a first lesson with a woman we talked to on the street. We called when we got to her house and she said she would come down... she never did.. because we were at the wrong house!!!! When we found the right house, we had a really good lesson about the restoration of the gospel. Then we had dinner with President Churdle and his family. It was a lot of fun and because we truly felt like a family.

Thursday we took a bus to another city to meet with a boy that self-refurred himself. He is about 18. He met us at the bus station and we went to a cafe and he bought us tea. (Czech culture thing) There we taught him the plan of salvation. I'm not going to lie, he was really hard to understand. I don't speak teenage slang Czech. However, It was a really great lesson. We found a quiet place outside the cafe and taught him how to pray. I said a prayer to give him an example and then he prayed. It was really powerful and the spirit was there. He has been reading in the Kniha Mormonova and overall is a cool kid. Then we returned to české budějovice. Our other lesson got canceled, so we were able to do some finding and talk to people.

Friday we went running with the Elders and the branch president. Then we came home, got ready and just as we were getting ready to plan our day, PRESIDENT POHOŘELICKÝ (the mission president) calls us and said he WAS AT OUR DOOR. So we let him in and we had an interview with him. He looked through our planners and our phones. He also walked through our house and complimented us on how clean it was. He thanked us for the work we were doing here. Then we had 2 lessons cancel on us today. But, we also had one amazing lesson and found a new family to teach. They have a sweet 6 year old girl. We taught them the restoration and she really opened up to us about some of the hard things that happened in her life. That gave us the opportunity to testify a lot about the atonement. Then as we were leaving, the little girl gave us each a little stuffed animal, it was cute. Then we ran into a lady who served here a few years ago on her mission and she took us to dinner with her family. It was a busy day.

Saturday we had the most incredible lesson with a Mom named Tereza. We met at a cafe and we taught her the plan of salvation. She was really involved and asked great questions. She brought up the fact that 2 days ago, her son asked her where we were before this life, well, we answered that question for her! It was really cool and the timing was inspired. I really cannot believe how prepare she was to hear the gospel and how receptive she was to it. The spirit definitely guided that lesson and told us what we needed to say. Then we cleaned the church and got it ready to go for Sunday. Then we did weekly planning and it was insane! We had so many lessons to plan for, we are working with some really great people right now! Then we had sports night, no one came, so we ended up handing our a bunch of fliers.

Sunday we went an hour early to church to meet up with a member whose train comes in early. It was good to talk to her. I lead the music during church. Then we went and visited Olina who is less active. Her brother let us in and olina was asleep on her bed. I couldn't tell if she was faking it or not, so we talked to her deaf sister for like 5 min and then we could hear Olina moving, so we went and taught her. We also had a lesson with Jaroslav. We taught him the restoration and it went well. He asked a lot of great questions and he prayed at the end of the lesson. Then we had correlation and the branch President. He gave all of us missionaries a really nice compliment about the work we are doing here. He is really kind.

There came a point this week, where I realized that there was no possible way I could get everything done that I needed to and am expected to on my own. That is where the power of the atonement kicked in and I realized that I didn't have to do it alone and that I am not doing it alone. The Savior is always there at my side helping me do his work. It really opened my eyes to the power of the atonement. I know that each of us can access the power of the atonement, it is one of Christ's greatest gifts to us. I hope you all have a wonderful week.

We are now traveling to a mission conference for all the missionaries in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The mission rented out a hotel for us to stay in for the next two days.  I'm excited  but also sad because so many missionaries are leaving and as well as my mission president.

Rozembek & Cleaning -- May 20, 2019

Čau rodina a kamarádi,

Tuesday we had district council and did some group finding afterwards at the University, but there weren't a lot of people outside so we ended up knocking on doors. We also taught our beginners English class which was fun.

Wednesday it rained all day. Honestly, it has rained every day this entire month. We had a first lesson with a guy we found and called in the area book. It went pretty well and we set up to meet again next week. Then we were planning on visiting a returning member, but she canceled on us last minute. It turned out being ok though because it gave us time to do weekly planning which we didn't really have time for the rest of the week.
Thursday the STL's from Prague came which was really fun, because they are the sisters that trained both Sister Ockey and I. We did a practice and then I spent the day with Sister Roberts. Our first lesson didn't show up which was sad. Then we got our studies done and visited Věra and shared a spiritual thought with her. Next, we went to visit a lady we set up with, but she wasn't home, so we just tracted. We were able to find 2 people that were interested and set up with them for next week. Then we went to dinner together with the Elders.

Friday we sent the STL's on their way and then got our studies done. Then we went and  talked to people on the street until we had a lesson. Well, the lesson didn't show up and wouldn't answer their phone. So, we went and tracted for a while. Then all of us went to dinner with a elder that just got home from his mission and came back to visit the country. It was fun and we got svičkova which was delicious.
Saturday was quite busy. We gave the senior couple a Czech lesson. Then we ran over to Věra's house to clean. Oh man, that was quite the adventure. It was pretty disgusting. There were some things that Věra said hadn't been cleaned for over 15 years. Gross! Then we ran home to change quickly and raced to a lesson with the less active we visited the day before that said we could come back. Well, they didn't answer the door or their phone. So, we tried to contact a referral that was sent to us from Ukraine. The address took us to a business and so we tracted it. We didn't have any luck. So, we got permission to call the number from Ukraine. It didn't work, the number only works through a specific app that we don't have. So we called the Elders that sent the referral to get more information about him. They are going to try and get his email so we can get in contact. Then we had sports night, but no one showed up, so we just cleaned the church building. We did a lot of cleaning today!

Sunday we had church and I gave a talk. It went well. I talked about member missionary work and ministering. Then we went and visited olina. We took her some basic food and the elders gave her the sacrament, then we shared a spiritual thought. Afterwards, we rang a lot of doorbells. :) Then we called some people to get lessons set up for next week. We finished off the day with correlation with the branch president.

Today we went to a castle called Rožmberk and walked like 2 miles down a beautiful forrest road to get there. It was really pretty. It rained the whole time and we got really wet, but it was fun none the less.

I re-read President Uchdorf's talk this week from last General Conference which included 5 guilt free things we can do to share the gospel

1. Draw close to God
2.  Fill your heart with love for others
3. Strive to walk the path of discipleship
4. Share what is in your heart
5. Trust the lord to work his miracles

I really love l these 5 steps. I know that after we have done all that we can, the lord does the rest. I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Miracles -- May 13, 2019

Ahoj,

I can't believe how many miracles and and funny stories happened this week! I hope you enjoy this week's email!

Tuesday was busy. We had district council in the morning at the Glasser's house. Afterwards, we went and did some group finding and drew a chalk display. It turned out really good. Then we planned to have a lesson with Radek and we invited a member to teach with us, but Radek canceled last minute and said he was sick. The member was already there, so we just taught him English and he taught us Czech. Then we taught our English class and that went well.
Wednesday was a holiday here; they celebrated the end of World War 2 (I think). We took a bus early in the morning to Třebon to visit a less active. We brought him some banana chocolate chip muffins we made the night before and talked about the kniha mormonova. It went well, and we had the lesson right next to a lake. It had a cool island out in the middle with an old shack on it and a tour boat that took people on rides around the lake. It was pretty. Afterwards we did some trackting and contacting. We got into about a 45 minute conversation with a girl from the Netherlands and taught her the Restoration. Then the bus we were supposed to take home never showed up... we were stranded and we discovered it would take us about 5 hours to walk back home according to Google maps. So we said a prayer and decided to wait, well about 35 minutes later, the bus showed up and we were able to make it home safely. It was a wonderful day full of miracles.
Thursday was quite an eventful day. In the middle of our studies we got a call from Věra and she asked us to take her grocery shopping. We agreed because there is no way she could do it by herself. She is like 85 and can barely walk. We figured she would give us a list and money and we would just go get it. Well, we went to her building and rang her doorbell, but she didn't answer. Luckily, there was a man by the door that let us in, so we took the elevator to the 9th floor where she lives and knocked on her door... no answer... we were pretty worried. So we called her and we could not understand at all where she said she was. We asked the elders to call her and they were able to at least catch where she said she was and look up the word... she was waiting for us by the dumpsters. So we ran over and she was hiding behind the dumpsters with her cane and little cart for her groceries. I escorted her to the store, very slowly. We had to stop and rest every couple steps, and sis ockey pulled the cart. She was joking and laughing with us the entire way. We got all her groceries and got her home safely and back up to the 9th floor. I love her so much, truly. Her personality is so unique. She is a like a child trapped in an old body. She is just so full of life and you can't help but to smile.

Friday we had a lesson with Vaclav and it was incredible. He is progressing well. He is keeping our commitments and asking wonderful questions. He came to his own conclusion that there were some word of wisdom things he needed to give up in order to feel the holy ghost more. We talked to a woman on the street today who has meet missionaries in the past and we got her number and set up for next week. We also had dinner with Sister Ockey's friends from home who are visiting the Czech Republic. One of them was a missionary who served here and it was fun to hear his mission stories from when he served in this area a few years ago. His wife is Czech and they have 3 cute little girls.

Saturday we had a cool experience when we contacted a woman sitting on a bench. She looked a little sad and lonely. We testified that God loved her and then introduced the Kniha Mormonova to her. I really felt the spirit speak through me and felt the love that God had for this woman. When we read Moroni 10:4-5 with her and I asked her what she thought, she said "I think it's true." Then we went to a lesson with a cute family from China. We taught them the plan of salvation and it was great. An hour later, coming home from our lesson, the woman was still sitting there on the bench.... reading the Kniha Mormonova. I know that the Kniha Mormonova really can bring us peace in our lives when we feast upon its words.

Sunday was very busy. We got up early so that we could catch a 2 hour train to go to Prague. It was stake conference and it was so fun to see all the members in the Czech Republic gathered together. I would say there were probably about 150-200 people there. It was fun to talk to all the members in Třebíč again. I got to talk to Babi Poho (my mission Presdident's mom) which made my day! She is so sweet. She is truly my grandma here on the mission. Conference had powerful spirit and I truly believe it was because so many strong members were gathered together. Then we took a 2 hour train ride back home. We also had the blessing of skyping home to wish our Mothers a Happy Mothers Day. I'm so grateful for my beautiful mother. She is one of the most christ-like people I know. Her example has blessed my life. I love you Mom.
This week, I studied Elder Ukedorfs talk about missionary work in our day to day lives. This is a quote I liked: "I am not asking that you stand on a street corner with a megaphone and shout out Book of Mormon verses. What I am asking is that you always look for opportunities to bring up your faith in natural and normal ways with people—both in person as well as online. I am asking that you “stand as witnesses” of the power of the gospel at all times—and when necessary, use words." I know that as we look for and pray for ways to share the gospel and help gather Isreal, that God will put people in our path, those to which we can bear a simple testimony.

Today was such a wonderful day. We got all of our shopping, cleaning, and 3 hours of procyliting done in the morning. Then we took a train to Písek. It was a pretty town. We saw some sand statues people sculpted and a pretty bridge. Then we went to a stud farm (horse farm). The door was locked and there was a lady outside gardening. She said you had to schedule a tour and then I asked if she could let us in. Well, she said yes and gave us a tour around the stables. We got to look at all the stallions and I was living in a dream!!! They had beautiful indoor and outdoor arenas for horse shows. The lady was so kind to us. She found out how much I loved horses and that we were from America she then she took away the fee of the tour! It was truly a miracle. I was talking to this lady and I found out she is like 80 years old and she has a bunch of hired hands that do chores around the farm. I love this lady! She gave me a big Czech kiss on the cheek when we left! What a miracle that this lady let us in, gave us a tour, and didn't charge us a penny. We left her with our number and told her a little bit about what we do... spreading the gospel!!

Mám vás ráda!

Half Way -- May 6, 2019

Čau!!!

Jak se máte???

Monday we visited Hlubolka which I sent pictures of last week... the castle.

Tuesday was a really sad day because we had to drop a cute family. We were teaching them English and also the gospel, but they just weren't keeping any commitments. We had to set expectations with them and they said they were going to stay atheist and respected our religion. So that was hard, I really love that family, but they just aren't the most effective use of our time. We need people who will progress. We went running with the branch president and the elders early in the morning which was fun because we got soaking wet in the rain. Radek also canceled on us which was a bummer. We also had English and the man (Tony) we met at the open house followed through with his promise and made me a cake (bábovka). It was really yummy. He said he would bring me the recipe next week. Haha :) uvidíme.

Wednesday we went to visit a less active who lives in the "rougher" part of town. She was not interested at all in coming back to church because she had some kind of falling out with someone which is sad. We were also able to find one potential while we were contacting. We had a lesson with Radek and invited President Churdle to join us. It was a really good lesson and I was grateful for president's incites. Today also marked my 9 months on the mission, which is half way. I was honestly pretty sad about it. My mission is going by way to fast.

Thursday we woke up at 5:30 to take a train ride 2 hours to Prague and then took the metro to the church building for zone training. It was my first training without translation because Czech is an incredibly hard language. I always feel so inspired after trainings and ready to work. I discovered things I can do to improve in terms of missionary work and also in terms of my personal conversion to the gospel. I love the missionaries in the mission so much. We are all so tight because there are so few of us. There are only about 20 missionaries in my zone. Afterwards a few of us practiced for a musical number for the mission wide conference that is coming up. Then we took the train home with our district and played the guitar and sang for 2 hours in our little cubby. It was a blast.

Friday we were pretty busy. In the morning, we had a lesson with Vaclav and taught the plan of salvation, which went well. He had some great questions and has been keeping our commitments!! In the afternoon, we had a lesson with Andrea at her cafe. It was a bit of a struggle because her partner wasn't there to help her so she had to jump in and out of the lesson to help customers. She has read to 1 Nephi 6 in the Kniha Mormonova! We scheduled another lesson for Monday. Then we ran to Věra's to share a spiritual thought with her and to play a hand of uno. We finished the day with weekly planning.

Saturday we went and taught the Glasser's Czech which was fun. We also had a lesson with Radek and talked about how it is a commandment to pray and read the scriptures. Then we had game night. Because it was raining, we played ping pong inside and shared a fun spiritual thought about the commandments and how when we follow them we have the holy ghost with us. Then we cleaned the church to get it ready for Sunday!

Sunday we had a beautiful fast and testimony meeting. We had some visitors from California. Also, 2 of the elders investigators came and one of ours came! Afterwards, we had a lesson with Radek and Bratr Maška about the law of tithing and fast offerings. It went well. Then we went to visit Olína with the Elders, so they could give her the sacrament and so we could teach her a lesson. But, she was sick, so we just went tracking. Then we did a mission wide zasvěcení setkání and set goals for our area. We also made some volání (calls) so that we could schedule lessons for the week. We finished up the day with correlation with President Churdle.

I'm grateful for the little miracles that God puts in our paths every day. He is the true mastermind behind the work. I have truly felt God's love for me this week. We have been busy and there was one day this week I was feeling a little overwhelmed. I hit my knees to say my prayers before bed and this overwhelming love just encircled me. It was like I was being hugged. I know that Hevenly Father loves each one of us and cares about the details of our lives.

Mám vás ráda!!!
