Ahoj,
I can't believe how many miracles and and funny stories happened this week! I hope you enjoy this week's email!
Tuesday was busy. We had district council in the morning at the Glasser's house. Afterwards, we went and did some group finding and drew a chalk display. It turned out really good. Then we planned to have a lesson with Radek and we invited a member to teach with us, but Radek canceled last minute and said he was sick. The member was already there, so we just taught him English and he taught us Czech. Then we taught our English class and that went well.
Wednesday was a holiday here; they celebrated the end of World War 2 (I think). We took a bus early in the morning to Třebon to visit a less active. We brought him some banana chocolate chip muffins we made the night before and talked about the kniha mormonova. It went well, and we had the lesson right next to a lake. It had a cool island out in the middle with an old shack on it and a tour boat that took people on rides around the lake. It was pretty. Afterwards we did some trackting and contacting. We got into about a 45 minute conversation with a girl from the Netherlands and taught her the Restoration. Then the bus we were supposed to take home never showed up... we were stranded and we discovered it would take us about 5 hours to walk back home according to Google maps. So we said a prayer and decided to wait, well about 35 minutes later, the bus showed up and we were able to make it home safely. It was a wonderful day full of miracles.
Thursday was quite an eventful day. In the middle of our studies we got a call from Věra and she asked us to take her grocery shopping. We agreed because there is no way she could do it by herself. She is like 85 and can barely walk. We figured she would give us a list and money and we would just go get it. Well, we went to her building and rang her doorbell, but she didn't answer. Luckily, there was a man by the door that let us in, so we took the elevator to the 9th floor where she lives and knocked on her door... no answer... we were pretty worried. So we called her and we could not understand at all where she said she was. We asked the elders to call her and they were able to at least catch where she said she was and look up the word... she was waiting for us by the dumpsters. So we ran over and she was hiding behind the dumpsters with her cane and little cart for her groceries. I escorted her to the store, very slowly. We had to stop and rest every couple steps, and sis ockey pulled the cart. She was joking and laughing with us the entire way. We got all her groceries and got her home safely and back up to the 9th floor. I love her so much, truly. Her personality is so unique. She is a like a child trapped in an old body. She is just so full of life and you can't help but to smile.
Friday we had a lesson with Vaclav and it was incredible. He is progressing well. He is keeping our commitments and asking wonderful questions. He came to his own conclusion that there were some word of wisdom things he needed to give up in order to feel the holy ghost more. We talked to a woman on the street today who has meet missionaries in the past and we got her number and set up for next week. We also had dinner with Sister Ockey's friends from home who are visiting the Czech Republic. One of them was a missionary who served here and it was fun to hear his mission stories from when he served in this area a few years ago. His wife is Czech and they have 3 cute little girls.
Saturday we had a cool experience when we contacted a woman sitting on a bench. She looked a little sad and lonely. We testified that God loved her and then introduced the Kniha Mormonova to her. I really felt the spirit speak through me and felt the love that God had for this woman. When we read Moroni 10:4-5 with her and I asked her what she thought, she said "I think it's true." Then we went to a lesson with a cute family from China. We taught them the plan of salvation and it was great. An hour later, coming home from our lesson, the woman was still sitting there on the bench.... reading the Kniha Mormonova. I know that the Kniha Mormonova really can bring us peace in our lives when we feast upon its words.
Sunday was very busy. We got up early so that we could catch a 2 hour train to go to Prague. It was stake conference and it was so fun to see all the members in the Czech Republic gathered together. I would say there were probably about 150-200 people there. It was fun to talk to all the members in Třebíč again. I got to talk to Babi Poho (my mission Presdident's mom) which made my day! She is so sweet. She is truly my grandma here on the mission. Conference had powerful spirit and I truly believe it was because so many strong members were gathered together. Then we took a 2 hour train ride back home. We also had the blessing of skyping home to wish our Mothers a Happy Mothers Day. I'm so grateful for my beautiful mother. She is one of the most christ-like people I know. Her example has blessed my life. I love you Mom.
This week, I studied Elder Ukedorfs talk about missionary work in our day to day lives. This is a quote I liked: "I am not asking that you stand on a street corner with a megaphone and shout out Book of Mormon verses. What I am asking is that you always look for opportunities to bring up your faith in natural and normal ways with people—both in person as well as online. I am asking that you “stand as witnesses” of the power of the gospel at all times—and when necessary, use words." I know that as we look for and pray for ways to share the gospel and help gather Isreal, that God will put people in our path, those to which we can bear a simple testimony.
Today was such a wonderful day. We got all of our shopping, cleaning, and 3 hours of procyliting done in the morning. Then we took a train to Písek. It was a pretty town. We saw some sand statues people sculpted and a pretty bridge. Then we went to a stud farm (horse farm). The door was locked and there was a lady outside gardening. She said you had to schedule a tour and then I asked if she could let us in. Well, she said yes and gave us a tour around the stables. We got to look at all the stallions and I was living in a dream!!! They had beautiful indoor and outdoor arenas for horse shows. The lady was so kind to us. She found out how much I loved horses and that we were from America she then she took away the fee of the tour! It was truly a miracle. I was talking to this lady and I found out she is like 80 years old and she has a bunch of hired hands that do chores around the farm. I love this lady! She gave me a big Czech kiss on the cheek when we left! What a miracle that this lady let us in, gave us a tour, and didn't charge us a penny. We left her with our number and told her a little bit about what we do... spreading the gospel!!
Mám vás ráda!
S láskou,
Sestra Guymon
