Greenie! Juy 29, 2019

Čau všem,

Tuesday was a pretty slow day we had a lesson cancel on us, so we did a lot of finding! It was really warm too, so we had to take an icecream break. We also launched the new area book planner app in our mission. Then we taught our English class and shared a spiritual thought about prayer.
Wednesday we went to Karleštejin for a mission conference. Sis Rudd and I left early with the Glassers and got to walk up to the castle which was a blessing. Then we met up with all the other missionaries for the conference. I found out I was training Sister Draper. She's from Lindon, Utah and I already love her to death. Then we reverently walked up to the plaque where the mission was dedicated for the preaching of the gospel by President Nelson 90 years ago. The missionaries leaving this transfer gave their testimonies and afterwards we had a minute to ponder, pray, and look out over the beautiful country. The spirit was so strong and my heart was so full! I love this mission so much! Then we drove home with the Glassers and sister Draper unpacked. Then we did some work getting peoples emails so we could send them a legal document for our digital area book. Then we made Sister Draper's first halušky for dinner!

Thursday we got up and went running. We did all of our finding in the morning because it was cooler. I helped sis Drapper get a bus pass and set up her phone. Then we did our studies. It takes a while get through things because I explain how we do things and why we are doing them so she understands the purpose behind it. Then we went and taught Věra. That was fun. I had to translate a lot for sis Draper. I know my language skills are going to grow a ton this transfer. Then we made halušky at the Glassers for dinner. Haha, we got halušky 2 nights in a row.
Friday we did a group singing display with the Elders and sis Draper got to do her first solo contacting. Then we went to lunch with Vojtěch who is less active and shared a spiritual thought and invited him to church. Them we came home and did our stuides and weekly planning. In the evening we made a delicious dinner and then had call ins with our district leader and the sister training leaders.

Saturday we went to buy groceries for a less active member, but we got caught in a rainstorm while doing so and got soaking wet. We had some amazing studies together and I learned a lot. We prepared our 72 hour kit and started getting people put into our digital area book. It is time consuming and tedious, but the hard work now will pay off in the future. On our way to the church we ran into a member who is visiting from Plzen which was so fun! We showed him where the church building was so that he could bring his family to church. It was a miracle and God's timing that we ran into him when we did! Then we cleaned the church and we were supposed to have sports night, but no one came sadly. Then we came home and made dinner and I got to here a lot of sister Draper's stories. I love her so much! I can't even tell you how perfect God's plan is and how perfectly he knows each us to put sister Draper and I together this transfer. Many miracles are going to happen this transfer!

Sunday was great. We had the man from Plzen we ran into come to church! Věra was also at church! Then we visited Olina and we are going to pick her up and bring her to church with us next week. She is a returning member. Then we had a lesson show up an hour late, but we were gone by then because we had another lesson, so we rescheduled with him. We also had a lesson with this cute family. We talked about God, Jesus Christ, prayer and the Book of Mormon. The spirit was so strong in that lesson. We helped them realize that they have had experiences with prayer and they God has answered their prayers. We finished the night with correlation.

I know that miracles come from exact obedience. Sister Draper and I have gone over all the rules this week and we follow them the very best we know how. As a result,  we have already seen so many miracles this week. I know heavenly father is guiding us in this work. Christ is my best friend. He lifts me up when I'm discouraged and gives me strength when I'm so tired that I feel like I cant go on. His atoning power truly works!

I love you all. Have an amazing week!

Roses Movie Night & Kaplice -- July 22, 2019

Ahoj,

Tuesday was an interesting day. I've got quite the story for you. We had 3 lessons which was awesome. The first lesson was the interesting one. There was this man I called from the area book. I set up with him and confirmed the meeting. Then when the time came to meet, he was 10 min late, so we called him. He didn't answer, so I sent him a text, no answer. So, we decided to give him 5 more minutes. Then this random guy walked up to me and shook my hand. He asked if I was the one who called him, I said yes, then he gave me a bouquet of flowers and kissed me on the cheek. That took me by surprise. I wasn't quite sure what to do. We then talked to him about prayer and scripture study. This guy is 82 years old and is very spritely.  He likes dancing and played a few songs on his harmonica for us. He said he wants to read the whole book of mormon. Then we had another lesson with a lady we set up with from the area book about how in the church we are like one big family. She really liked that and we invited her to church. Then we had a lesson with Radek, we don't have much more to teach him, so we asked what he wanted to be retaught and then the lesson led into repentance and it was really good. It was a lesson led by the spirit. Then we finished the day by teaching our English class. The Glassers were gone, so we had to split up to handle our varying levels of classes. I taught the beginner class.

Wednesday we had district council which was good. I learned a lot. Sestra Rudd and I practiced teaching the restoration and the district gave us feedback. Then we had a lesson with another guy we called from the area book and set up with. It was a really interesting, but also frustrating lesson. He just had different opinions and ideas and wasn't really willing to listen. I don't think we will continue teaching him. Then we came home and did our studies.

Thursday morning we ran with President Churdle and Elders. Then we with split up the less actives in plzen with the Elders, so we can better minister to them. Then we did some fun finding by writing acts of service and pinning them to a board. We walked around the city and invited people to do them. Service is a great way to bring a little joy into the world. Then we had a Skype lesson with Sarah. She has a tough family situation and satan is working to stop her from getting baptized next month. But I have faith. And this girl has determination and a strong testimony of the gospel. I admire her so much. Keep her and her family in your prayers.

Friday we did weekly planning, some finding,  and then had a movie night. We watched the movie coco and invited a lot of people. I was really impressed with the turnout. We had a couple families there and a lot of people I had never met before. It was very successful. Then we went to a nice Czech Resturant for dinner with the Elders and the Glassers to celebrate an Elder's 2 year mark and the Glassers 1 year mark on the mission.
Saturday we ran a 5K "ke stromu" with the Elders and President Chrudle. The work was pretty slow today. We did some English chalk displays on the street to get more people to our English class. Then we were supposed to have a lesson with Sarah, but it fell through, so we taught the Glassers Czech. We cleaned the church and then had sports night, but no one showed up sadly. So we came home, and I helped sister Rudd finish preparing her talk for tomorrow.

Sunday we had so many people at church! We had to bring extra chairs into the chapel. We had a lot of visitors. Two of the families were from America and there was another one from ukraine. Sister Rudd gave a great talk about the Holy Ghost. We had a lesson with MengMeng and her husband and focused on who God and Jesus Christ are. They are excited to build their relationship with him and get to know him. It touched my heart when they said it was the most important thing they could do because life is so short. They are a great family. Then we had a Skype lesson with Sarah and that was really good because her mom sat in on the lesson, who is not interested in religious things at all. It was good to show her mom that we are just normal people. Then we had correlation with the branch president, the Elders, and the Glassers. But on the way, we ran into a YSA boy from Ukraine, so we talked to him on the way to the church building. He has met missionaries in Ukraine, but will be here for he summer. He's going to come to our English class and hopefully we can teach him the gospel. It was a cool miracle. Even though we were in a hurry, God put someone in our path that we needed to talk to!

Today was a lot of fun because we got all of our cleaning, shopping and most of our procyliting done. Then we went to Kaplice and met up with a member. Then we went to a castle and then roller skated around a lake. It was beautiful. I sure do love it here and it was really great to get to know our member better. Then our branch president and his family invited us over for dinner. It was a wonderful day.

I know this gospel is true without a doubt. I know that every day is a chance to change your life by growing closer to the Savior. His hand is always stretched out to us in times of trouble and all we have to do is reach out and take it. He will lift us up. He has lifted me up many times on my mission. I know that he loves us. He's my brother, my best friend, and my Savior.

I love you all!

911 Emergency -- July 15, 2019

Čau všem,

First of all, Mom, Dad, I'm fine and safe. But, Saturday night we could have died in our sleep. I'll write about that in a second.
Tuesday we had district council and had some technology difficulties trying to Skype Česke Budějovice in, but we got it figured out eventually. Then we went to lunch at a jidelna and got this weird salad. I was so confused. It was like tomatoes and onions floating in water. We had to ask the waitress how we were supposed to eat it, but you just fish it out with a fork. It was surprisingly good. We also invited the waitresses to our English class when we were paying for our food and both of the girls working there gave us their numbers which was cool. Then we taught our conversational English class and afterwards one of our students gave us a lesson on quantum mechanics. I LOVED IT! He is a professor at the university here in Plzen and he spent an hour with us working through equations. (That was our dinner hour). It was so fun becuase I learned about it last year in college and actually understood what he was talking about.

Wednesday we did all of our studies and weekly planning. Then we went out and did some trackting. There was one lady that came out in a robe and invited us in, gave us water and we both talked about our beliefs. She is a strong member of another church, but she was really kind. Then she walked with us and showed us where one of the members in our branch lives. We tried to visit her, but she wasn't home.

Thursday was awesome because we had our culture night for hitting standards, which means we got to go on a 3 hour trip! We took a train and the Elders in Česke Budějovice got scared when we didn't answer our phones because we didn't have service. So they called the zone leaders and the zone leaders called us trying to track us down and make sure everything was ok. Haha, they watch out for us. In Cheb, we met up with 2 of our investigators and they showed us around the city. Then one of them realized they lost their wallet, so we prayed and looked for it, called the train station and luckily they had it! Prayer works and it was a good life situation to show them that. Then we went and saw a castle and went into some underground tunnels. It was awesome. We taught them about the word of wisdom and they had a hard time with a few things, but we will keep working on it. Then went back to Plzen and had lesson with an awesome YSA we met on the street 2 weeks ago. We talked about who God was, taught him how to pray, and invited him to pray that evening and he said he would! On our way home, two people stopped us to talk which is so unusual! One of them gave us his number so we could give him more information about our English class. Then we talked to another guy from France who is studying here and we got his number to talk more. There were just so many miracles today. The Lord truly is guiding this work.

Friday morning we did service for a lady in her garden and then shared a spiritual thought with her about the book of mormon. We also taught her how to pray. After a little coaxing, she said a beautiful prayer. Then we went home and called our land lord because our sink was leaking, so he had to come over and replace a part. Then we went to the church and had a Skype lesson with Andrea and talked about the strippling warriors, motherhood, and the family proclamation. It was a good lesson. Then we walked home in the rain and had call ins with our district leader and the Sister training leaders.
Saturday we did our studies in the morning and some calls to get lessons set up for next week. Then we went to cafe and had a lesson with the mom of a girl which we met on a train. The lesson was 1/2 English 1/2 Czech because she wants to practice English. We talked about who God is and about her work. She is a really sweet lady. She kept complimenting my Czech. Then we went to the church to have sports night, but no one came, so we just cleaned the church and walked home.

Ok, now for our emergency. At about 1:30AM I woke to the sound of an alarm. Sis Rudd was sound asleep, so I woke her up and we went to the source of the sound. It was the carbon monoxide detector in our bathroom. We have an old, gas water heater and we figured that was the source. I opened some windows. We grabbed our emergency kit, a jacket, and our phones and got out of the apartment. Then we called the Elders on one phone and the police on the other and they sent someone. They didn't understand English, so we had to do our best to explain our situation in Czech. Then we called the mission President and he didn't answer, so we called his wife, who picked up and we explained the situation. Then a big fire truck pulled up and 3 guys with reflective suits and helmets came out. We took them up to our apartment, by then the alarm had stopped beeping because a lot in the carbon monoxide had escaped through the windows I had opened. They got a slight reading of the CO in air though. They played with our water heater for a bit and told us that it has a problem and our landlord needs to replace it. After a few more tests, they told it it was safe to go back to sleep. We had to give them our identification information too. Then we called our mission President back and told him what happened and then we all felt safe to go back to bed. I tossed and turned for a bit and couldn't fall asleep because I kept relaying the situation in my mind. Sis Rudd couldn't sleep either, so we talked for a bit and then eventually felt calm enough and our adrenaline cooled down enough to let us go back to bed. It was just scary because if we didn't have that carbon monoxide detector, we literally could have died that night.

Sunday we were pretty tired. President and the Elders checked up on us. We got ready and walked 45 minutes to church. We had a guy come that found us on the internet and it was fun to get to know him. Then we visited sis Juraskovsa, who is the sweet babička who always cooks for us. She fell twice and and is pretty bruised up.  Then we came home and called the land lord and told them about what happened last night, so hopefully they will fix the water heater. Then we packed and took a train back to česke budějovice. We finished the night with correlation with President Churdle and the Elders.

I am so grateful for the holy ghost. It protects us and warns us of danger. It helps guide us and shows us what to do in emergency situations. He also comforts us. During our emergency, I was surprisingly calm, and somehow just knew what I was supposed to do. I know Heavenly Father was watching out for us.

I love you all,
